This week’s worship service will be based on 1 Samuel 1:3-20 where we meet Hannah, who prays to God to hear the cries of the disposed. God hears her prayer, and Hannah sings a song of Thanksgiving (1 Samuel 2:1-10). In preparation for worship, you are invited to read 1 Samuel 2:1-10 Hannah’s Prayer of thanksgiving – often called “Hannah’s song.” Alongside this, please read Mary’s Song (“The Magnificat”): Luke 1:46-55, which is rooted in this ancient prayer of Hannah. Both women praise God in similar ways: poor women thanking God for paying attention to those in need, often overlooked by society. Who comes to mind for you who needs God’s intervention? Our worship will use this scripture as a jumping off point to focus on missing and murdered Indigenous women. Standing alongside the red dress movement, if you wish you may wear red as a symbol of remembering and calling attention to human rights abuses.
